Scargill Walled Garden

Circular, strenuous, hilly walk climbing rocky terraces & stiles to Old Cote Moor summit. Views across the Dales. Along the River Wharfe otters & kingfishers can be seen. Dogs welcome under close control. Potential livestock & ground nesting birds.

An easy, flat, linear, well-signed route that follows the River Wharfe as it winds its way through fields and farmland & between historic dry-stone walls. Look out for kingfishers, trout & other wildlife. Dogs are welcome & should be kept under control.

The route was inspired by the indomitable Lady Anne Clifford, who owned vast estates in the old county of Westmorland during the seventeenth century. The route is in the area she traveled and highlights a several castles she renovated.

A moderate fellside circular with steep ascent & descents and views of the Wharfe valley. Encounter stepping-stones, a strenuous section along the centenary path & huge Wellingtonia trees. Return along the riverside & keep dogs on leads near livestock.
